Pathways to Independence

Our day programs give individuals the opportunity to meet their full potential in life skills, job skills and community involvement.


Lifestyle Support Services, Inc. currently operates one adult training facility (ATF) in Cambria County, offering vocational development, job coaching, life skills and training, and leisure activities to individuals with intellectual disabilities. “Pathways to Independence” reflects Lifestyle Support Services, Inc.’s belief that every individual should have the opportunity to meet his or her potential by offering the tools, training and assistance to do so in an atmosphere conducive to personal growth. The site located in Elmora, PA has a capacity to serve 56 individuals.

Pathways to Independence programs provide training and assistance in the following life skills areas:

  • Social skills necessary to build and maintain relationships
  • Leisure activities, such as gardening
  • Personal awareness
  • Health maintenance, including exercise
  • Communication
  • Personal hygiene
  • Independent toileting
  • Safety skills in the home and community
  • Vocational skills, including prerequisites for employment

Being involved and participating in one’s community is an integral part of everyday life and Pathways to Independence offers the following activities to that end, providing opportunities for interactions with others in the community:

  • Outings to local attractions including parks, shops and tours
  • Recreational activities, such as bowling
  • Community events, including ball games, parades, festivals, etc.
  • Dining out, to incorporate restaurant etiquette
  • Volunteering in the community, including local park beautification projects

Day Services strive to provide employment opportunities, such as:

  • Work opportunities within day programs such as recycling activities
  • Work opportunities through community contracts
  • Individualized opportunities with job coaching assistance
  • Vocational training through the production and packaging of crafts and other decorative items sold by local merchants, in vendor booths at community festivals and events and at local craft fairs.
